Water Saver is practically impervious to carbon dioxide (CO2) and this gas, highly important to photosynthesis, builds up under the Mulch Mat. Because the mulch mat film does not allow CO2 to easily escape like porous materials, the gas is channeled through holes made in the plastic, primarily, the center hole area. This channeling can concentrate CO2 for the protected plants and a "chimney effect" is created, resulting in localized concentrations of abundant CO2 to promote actively growing leaves.
Enhanced Fruit Ripening:
For fruit tree applications the mulch mat can be used white-side up which will reflect diffused sunlight back up into the canopy to help ripen fruit.

Water Saver's "moisture-mizing" weed-stopping power starts with bi-layer construction that locks soil moisture in and sunlight out. Two sides, one white and one black, deliver one-of-a-kind flexibility that works the way you want to stop weeds in their tracks. Follow the instructions below to get the most from your new planting with Water Saver.
Step 1 Plant Seedling
Step 2 Choose Black Side Up Or W
hite Side Up.
Black side up is recommended for forest tree and shrub plantings or where improved crop ripening is not required (see Figure 1).
White side up is recommended f
or growing tomatoes, peppers, berries, tree fruit and other crops where light reflected back up into the canopy from below is desired for enhanced ripening (see Figure 2).
Step 3 Install Weed Mat Around Seedling.
Open Water Saver Weed Mat and guide seedling through pre-cut center hole. Center seedling stem in opening and flatten weed mat out to maximize surface coverage area and achieve firm contact with the ground.
Step 4 Secure Corners.
Pull weed mat tight and anchor corners about 1in from edge with soil staples or pins. Keeping the weed mat flat and tight improves surface contact with the soil to maximize moisture retention and blocks sunlight from sides to keep weeds from growing underneath (see figure 3).
Step 5 Secure Center Section.
Anchor center area with soil staple driven to ground level 1in from edge of hole (see figure 3).
